Why test with a white screen?

A uniform white background is the single most revealing test for any LCD or OLED display. Because every pixel should look exactly the same, anything that breaks the uniformity jumps out: dead pixels show as stubborn black dots, dust and fingerprints appear as soft gray smudges, and uneven backlighting shows as yellow or pink patches, especially in the corners.

Set brightness to maximum and turn off Night Shift, Night Light or blue-light filters before you test — these features tint the white and hide exactly the problems you are looking for. Let a monitor warm up for 10–15 minutes first, because brightness uniformity changes as the backlight settles.

Everyday uses for a white screen

See a black dot that never moves? That is a dead pixel — learn how it differs from a stuck pixel on the monitor test page. Notice light leaking around the edges on dark colors? Run the backlight bleed test in a dark room.

White screen FAQ

How do I make my screen completely white?+

Click any white shade above and the color fills your entire screen. Press Esc on a computer, or tap the screen once on a phone, to return to this page.

Why use a white screen to check for dead pixels?+

Dead pixels stay black no matter what the screen shows, so they are easiest to spot against a uniform white background. Dust and smudges also stand out clearly on white.

Can I use the white screen as a light source?+

Yes. A white screen on a spare monitor, tablet or phone works as a free fill light for video calls or product photos. Warm white (#FFF4E5) looks more natural on camera than pure white.

Can I download a white background image?+

Yes — the download cards below generate a pure white PNG or JPG in 1×1, 1080p (1920×1080) and 4K (3840×2160) sizes, rendered locally on your device.
